Please read this entire page prior to applying. You'll find the application link at the bottom of this page once applications open.

In order to be eligible to apply to EST, you need to attend one of our three information sessions held during the first week of classes. You do not need to attend more than one as the information is the exact same. The dates and times are listed below:

• Sunday, August 31st at 5:00 pm in DUC 276
• Tuesday, September 2nd at 5:00 pm in DUC 276
• Wednesday, September 3rd at 8:00 pm in DUC 276

We invite all first-year undergraduate WashU students regardless of experience and all second-year undergraduate WashU students who already have an EMT-B license to apply. For second-year undergraduates, EMT licensure is required for our adjusted onboarding training, and to ensure both you and the campus get the most out of your contribution to the team.

We unfortunately do not accept any third or fourth year WashU student applications.

Our selections process has multiple interview phases, beginning with a written application composed of three questions. This application will opens on August 29th, 2025 at 11:59pm and will close on September 5th, 2025 at 11:59pm. You must attend an information session for your application to be considered, please reach out to estselections@gmail.com with any concerns.

The written questions are as follows:

• Why EST? (What do you intend to bring to EST? What do you intend to get out of EST?) (150 word maximum)
• ONE of the following two questions (but not both):
  • Have you ever been in a situation where you thought it would be better to be dishonest? What did you end up doing? Why? (250 word maximum)
  • Describe a time when you stepped back instead of stepping up. Why did you make that decision and what did you learn from it? (250 word maximum)
• Discuss a time when you dealt with a stressful situation. How did you respond? How did you change your outlook? (250 word maximum)

After the written application, we hold a minimum of two invite-only in-person interview rounds. During years where we have a high volume of applications and need to further narrow applicants to fulfill the final roster we take each year, we organize a third round of interviews.

Interview Schedule:

Round 1: Morning of September 13th or 14th depending on the applicant
Round 2: September 27th
Round 3 (if necessary): October 11th
